It gives me great pride and pleasure to present finally the Avril-Media debut of the video for the song, 'Girlfriend.' It was the lead single and is the opening track from Avril's third album, 'The Best Damn Thing' (2007), the fourth top-selling album worldwide that year. The explicit versions of TBDT were Avril's first to receive a Parental Advisory label, shown on the limited and deluxe editions. In part, you can put the blame on Mame, er, 'Girlfriend.'
GF was produced by Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald. It became Av's biggest hit in the United States, her first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. GF topped the chart in Australia for 6 weeks. It went #1 as well on the Austria Singles Top 75, Ireland Singles Top 50, New Zealand Top 40, Sweden Singles Top 60, and World Singles Top 40. GF reached #2 in the UK, her highest charting song there to date.
GF won the Award for "Canción del Año" (Song Of The Year) at "Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2007" (The Latin American MTV Awards) and was nominated for "Monster Single" at the MTV Video Music Awards 2007. It won "Most Addictive Track" (Single Of The Year) at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The world premiere of the GF music video was announced to be on MTV's Total Request Live and MuchMusic's MuchOnDemand on February 26. However, it premiered in New Zealand on Music Station C4 on February 20. It was in heavy rotation on European music TV channel VIVA Polska on February 23 as well.
The music video was directed by The Malloys, who had helmed the videos 'Complicated' and 'He Wasn't.' GF was filmed at Golf 'n' Stuff in Norwalk, California. Avril's boyfriend in the video is played by American model Bryan McMullin. The video features Av's former lead guitarist Evan Taubenfeld, and her brother Matt on bass.
On July 18, 2008 GF became the most viewed video of all time on YouTube, and in August of that year, surpassed 100 million views, the first YouTube video to reach that milestone, overtaking 'Evolution of Dance' by Judson Laipply. The YouTube video of the song was accused of having an exaggerated number of views due to the use of a web link posted by AvrilBandAids. Clicking on the link would automatically reload the YouTube video every fifteen seconds. Fans were encouraged to: "Keep this page open while you browse the internet, study for exams, or even sleep. For extra viewing power, open up two or more browser windows at this page!" It is expected that Av\'s YouTube video views have earned in excess of $2 million (U.S.).

Glad to see someone cares about GF but you wouldn't know it by the results of the latest A-M poll. Don't you know that according to Bandaids, TBDT damaged Avril's career? Just because it was the 4th biggest selling album of the 2007 and GF is Av's biggest hit of all time, somehow it still ruined GL's chances to succeed. Because GL doesn't have a leg to stand on, so the dog don't hunt, cannot make it on its own. GL fans are in such denial. Just the fact that they say they are fans of GL. But that's just MHO. And remember you started it with your declared war on TBDT. So I go against the tide of the worst damn thing. Course fighting GL is like shooting dead fish in a barrel. So go ahead. Put the blame on Mame er MFP.
