AVRIL LIVE IN DUBLIN (2003)
The Point Theatre
Dublin, Ireland
3.24.2003
Pro Shot & Edited / Filmed for TV (aired later)
Dublin was the 18th date of the Try To Shut Me Up Tour.
Per Wikipedia, "in January 2003 Lavigne announced her first headlining tour [Try To Shut Me Up]; the 18-year-old Canadian rocker stated: "Being up onstage is the best part of being a musician, and everything else is annoying."
[twm notes] The TV broadcast was likely edited for time, so the full concert was not aired. The five songs missing from the regular tour setlist: "Naked," "Too Much To Ask," "I Dont Give," "Things Ill Never Say," and her cover of Bob Dylans, "Knockin On Heavens Door."
Before the last song "Tomorrow," Avril announced to the crowd that she was dedicating the nights performance to her grandpa, who had passed away that very day. Through tears Avril performs the tune bravely and brilliantly. At the end the band come to her side and support, and they walk her off the stage.
In a later interview for ABC Family Avril revealed that she had received the news only a couple of hours before the show. Avril said that she had never really known anyone that had died before, never mind someone close to her. She gave as reason she had gone on with the show, was that it was an important gig and that he would have wanted her to go on.
When the concert aired on TV that May in Europe, for some reason Avris "Tomorrow" introduction/dedication to her grandfather was not shown.
But on June 8 on ABC Family, the dedication was aired in a documentary entitled, "Anything But Ordinary." See ABO video file, "Part 6," @ 7:57 in... The entire documentary is highly recommended, and can be found at Avril-Media. The program includes interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. There are 5 songs and a couple of clips taken from the Dublin concert. Note that the songs are spread out through the documentary, and are not in order. Two songs are just partial clips. On one of the full five songs ABC chose to show footage spread throughout it, of Avril and motocross champ Brian Deegan riding motorcycles.
ALID File Notes: The ABC documentary video file offers the best quality, but the show is broken up and incomplete (see notes above).
The other two versions of the concert aired, "Avril Live In Dublin," are apparently taken from different TV network sources.
Compared to the AVI, the single-file MPEG has a bigger picture, that is in sharper focus and richer color. But the sound on the MPEG is a bit harsh. This harshness is most noticeable on "Tomorrow." The song "Anything But Ordinary" gets cut off. And the MPEG has brief bits of TV commercials and TV channel promos between some songs.
The individual-file AVI has no commercials, and no song-cuts. The video is HQ.
The AVI sound has a higher bitrate, and is clearer.
As this is ultimately about the music, I choose the individual-file AVI version.
Sample for yourself. I offer you the choice. Or you may prefer to snatch both.
The "Sk8er Boi" avatar is taken from the MPEG, and the "Tomorrow" screencap/banner is from the AVI.
Finally, I have included some extra screencaps and photos, along with a text of concert/tour details.

AVI Caps after the Thewaymouth Bump...
Take in what may be the most intense and highly emotionally-charged show of Avrils career. It will blow you away.
Ultimately its Avril Lavigne. Her Let Go band doing her Let Go album. Try to shut me up about it.
"Youre gonna LET GO! Youre gonna LET GO! ...All right." - Mick Jagger (1973 Stones concert, urging on the crowd)
